Chia Seeds….very good for you

However you buy them, these are little miracle seeds. Full of all things good for you.

High in Omega 3, Great source of Fibre, low sugar, low salt, great protein levels.

They can be used in so many ways, I often use them as an egg substitute when baking, or even mix them with ground flax seeds to make egg mix. You can add them to soups, shakes, smoothies. Add them to cakes and bread, anywhere and everywhere really.

A lot of people make Chia Pudding, I don’t actually enjoy the texture, they go quite gooey and slimy. Looks a bit like frogspawn.  Which I find a bit off putting. However I do use them. Recently I have been making Chocolate Chia pudding porridge. Quite a mouthful, literally.

I use 3 tablespoons of oats, I tablespoon of Chia seeds, 1/2 tablespoon of Dark Chocolate powder/Cocoa powder.

I put the oats into a bowl. Then into  a shaker, pour 100 ml of plant milk, add the chocolate and shake well to mix, then pour this over the porridge, stir to cover all of the oats, then add the Chia Seeds, stir well. Then either place in a saucepan bring to the boil and simmer for a couple of minutes, or place the bowl into a microwave, for about 4 minutes.

When done, transfer to a clean bowl and leave to stand for 5 minutes, the chia seeds expand and the mixture becomes very thick, you can either add a little more plant milk if you do not like it too thick or have it as it is.

I tend to add different toppings.

I usually add some Alpro vanilla or plain. A banana and any other fresh fruit I may have. The green one is with added Chlorella, mixed with a little plant milk and poured on top, making it a super healthy bowl. A little nut butter never goes a miss and a drizzle of Maple Syrup/ Agave / or vegan syrup.

If this is your first meal of the day, it is a great start. Depending on what you put on top, it can be anywhere from 300 (The base mix) calories upwards. But just full of goodness.
